Draw the throwing rib profile you want exactly, and we'll ship it to you. No compromising trying to find the shape you want — if you can sketch the curve, we can make the rib. What you see is what you get!

We recommend using a computer, however, the designer is still compatible with your phone, but it may be more difficult to use.

How To Design Your Rib

1. Choose your size

Pick a size above, ranging from micro to extra large, then choose the exact height you need from the dropdown. Heights run from 30mm to 200mm in 5mm steps. The height should roughly match the height of the pot wall you want to shape.

2. Draw your profile

The left-hand edge of the rib is the working edge — the shape that transfers to your clay. Draw it however suits you:

• Manual — click on the grid to add a point, then drag points to shape the curve. Double-click a point to remove it.
• Smooth Draw — click then hold and move to sketch a freehand line and we'll turn it into a smooth curve.
• Line Draw — click then hold and move to sketch freehand and we'll turn it into straight segments.

Select a point or segment to fine-tune it: convert between straight and curved, snap a line perfectly vertical or horizontal, or type in an exact measurement. Arrow keys nudge a selected point by 1mm, or 5mm holding Shift.

Mirror Top and Mirror Bottom reflect one half onto the other for a symmetrical form. Undo steps back through your changes, and Reset starts again from a blank line.

3. Set the backing and add a hole

Move to the Rib & Hole step to see the finished rib. The backing is the solid part you hold — set it anywhere from 30mm to 60mm. The dotted line shows where it begins.

You can add an optional finger hole, which makes the rib easier to grip and handy to hang up in the studio. Set the diameter between 10mm and 25mm and drag it wherever you like. It always keeps at least 3mm of material around it, so it can't sit too close to an edge. Use Snap to Centre to line it up with the backing, or lock one axis to slide it in a straight line.

4. Save and order

Give your design a name if you'd like — it'll appear on your order and makes reordering easier later. Use Save Sketch to download a copy of your design, and Upload Sketch to load it back in another time, or to start from one of our ready-made profiles.

Then add it to your cart. Your drawing travels with the order, so we print exactly what you designed.

Choosing a size sets which heights are available, so you'll always see the right options for the size you've picked.
